Harold Privacy Policy

Overview

Harold Technologies LLC (“Harold,” “we,” “us”) makes Harold, a personal budgeting and net worth app available at haroldfinance.com. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.

The short version: we use your information only to run Harold for you. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.

Effective date: October 12, 2026. Questions: hello@haroldfinance.com.

Information we collect

  • Account information: your name, email address, password (stored only in hashed form), and sign-in security settings.
  • Financial account information, through Plaid: when you connect a bank, credit card, investment, or loan account, we receive account names and types, the last few digits of account numbers, balances, transactions, investment holdings and activity, and loan details such as balances, rates, and payment dates. We never see or store your bank login credentials.
  • Information you enter: budgets, categories, goals, notes, and edits you make to your data.
  • AI Assistant conversations: messages you send to the in-app AI Assistant and its replies.
  • Technical information: basic device, browser, and log data (such as IP address and timestamps) needed to keep the service secure and working.

We use only essential cookies, which keep you signed in and remember basic interface preferences, such as whether the sidebar is collapsed. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

How we use your information

We use your information to:

  • Show your balances, transactions, budgets, and net worth
  • Categorize transactions and generate budgeting insights
  • Answer your questions through the AI Assistant
  • Keep your account secure, prevent fraud, and fix problems
  • Respond to your support requests
  • Meet legal obligations

AI features. Harold uses AI services from third-party providers. When you chat with the AI Assistant, your messages and the financial information needed to answer them are sent to Anthropic. Background tasks, such as categorizing transactions and generating budget plans, send the relevant financial information to OpenAI. We access both through their business APIs, which do not use your data to train their models. These providers may keep data for a limited time under their own policies, for example to monitor for abuse.

Who we share information with

We share information only with service providers that help us run Harold, and only what each one needs.

If we add paid plans, payments will be handled by a third-party payment processor, and we will not store full card numbers.

Market data. To show current prices for investments, we look up stock and crypto prices from Twelve Data and CoinGecko. We send them only ticker symbols, never your personal or account information.

Plaid. Harold uses Plaid Inc. to connect to your financial accounts. By connecting an account, you agree that Plaid may collect and process your information under the Plaid End User Privacy Policy.

Household members. If you invite someone to your Harold household, they can see the financial information shared in that household. A member who isn’t the household owner can delete their account at any time, and the owner keeps the household’s shared data. The household owner must first transfer ownership to another member or remove the other members before deleting their account. You can also email hello@haroldfinance.com and we’ll help.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights and safety of our users or Harold, or as part of a merger or sale of the business, in which case this policy would continue to apply to your information.

Your choices and rights

  • Disconnect an account: you can remove any connected account in Harold’s settings at any time. We then stop receiving new data from it.
  • Delete your account: you can delete your Harold account in settings or by emailing hello@haroldfinance.com. We delete your data within 30 days, except where the law requires us to keep it. Backup copies are removed on their normal cycle, within 90 days.
  • Access and correct: you can view and edit your information in the app, or ask us for a copy of it by email.
  • How long we keep data: we keep your information while your account is open, then delete it as described above.

California residents. You can ask what personal information we have about you, ask us to delete or correct it, and use these rights without being treated differently. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context advertising. Email hello@haroldfinance.com to make a request.

Do Not Track. Harold does not track you across other websites, so our practices are the same whether or not your browser sends a Do Not Track signal.

Security

We protect your information with encryption in transit and at rest, encrypted storage of the access tokens Plaid provides, restricted access to production systems, and multi-factor sign-in. No system is perfectly secure, but if a breach affects your information, we will notify you as the law requires.

Children

Harold is for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We will post any changes here and update the effective date. If a change materially affects how we use your information, we will notify you by email or in the app before it takes effect.
